Climate & Environment
We believe that being a follower of Jesus should impact all areas of our lives, which includes our care for the planet we have been given, and our neighbours around the world. We know this is a huge issue to deal with but have confidence in a God for whom ‘nothing is impossible’ to equip us to take effective action.
We made a Climate and Environmental Crisis declaration in 2021 ahead of world leaders meeting in Glasgow for COP26 in November to make critical climate decisions. We have joined with many other churches and organisations across the UK to declare that this is an issue that matters greatly to us.
As Christians we recognise that care of the planet is a matter that is on God’s heart and therefore on ours too. We also recognise that God has called us to take particular care for the world’s poorest who are most affected by damage to the planet resulting from climate change.
Whilst recognising the gravity of the crisis, we are confident that there is hope for the situation and that humankind has the potential to bring about the radical change that is needed to address the challenge.
We commit to taking action on both an individual and corporate level to minimise our impact on the environment and bring about hope and restoration.
We write an annual action plan, have services, resources and displays with a focus on environmental issues, have an ethical purchasing policy and have been awarded an Eco-church bronze award.
